The United Nations is convening a three-day summit of world leaders to assess the global economic crisis and its impact on development. The meeting was mandated at the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development, held in December 2008 in Doha, Qatar.

Making Economic Stimulus Packages Work for Women [Flyer]

Venue: Conference Room B, United Nations Secretariat, Co-sponsored by UNESCAP

 

The panel will explore whether economic stimulus packages allocate resources for women’s issues and move beyond one-time subsidies to gender-equitable job creation, social services provisioning and social protection within a rights-based framework. Opening remarks by Inés Alberdi, Executive Director, UNIFEM and Noeleen Heyzer, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary, UNESCAP. Panelists include Carolina S. Guina, Development Cooperation Specialist; Marina Durano, Women’s Working Group on Financing for Development; and Bijaya Rai Shrestha, Programme Coordinator, Pourakhi, Nepal.
