- A public launch of the EC/UN Partnership on Gender Equality for Development and Peace will take place in Brussels on 11 September 2007. The event will be hosted by the European Commission's Europe-Aid Cooperation Office, and will be held at Europe-Aid Info-Point. The European Commission and the United Nations will present the objectives and actions foreseen in the three-year initiative (2007–2009).
- Recent Report reveals LAC youth vulnerable to unemployment and informality

- ILO recently quoted a report that show 30 Mn young people in Latin America and the Caribbean exposed to work under bad conditions, low wage remunerations, no non-wage benefits in the informal economy. It also revealed the aspect of unemployment, informality and inactivity persisting among the 106 Mn youth in the LAC labour markets that is hindering economic growth and fight against poverty in the region. - Director-General Pascal Lamy, in his opening speech at the Conference on ‘Multilateralising Regionalism’ on 10 September 2007 in Geneva, said that the regional proliferations are a breeding concern for today’s global economy. The significant point is not whether regionalism is a good or a bad thing, but it is important to look at the manner in which the RTAs operate, its effects on trade opening and on the creation of new economic opportunities. He also expressed concerns over the fact that while regional trading is not bad, yet excessive regionalism might be harmful for multilaterally-based trading relationships.
- Lamy highlights the ‘Strategic Importance of Global Trade’ as basis for ‘Global Stability and Security’

- WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy, in a speech to the Global Strategic Review Conference, International Institute for Strategic Studies, Geneva, held on 8 September 2007, said that increasing trading opportunities for nation acts as a basis for stability of the nation, while terrorism act as the source of instability. Stressing on the importance of increased trade flows amongst the nations, Lamy argued that such would help to reduce scarcity of resources as well as increase interdependence among nations. It would help the countries to integrate in the global economy and know each other better. He added that the successful conclusion of the Doha Round has “a strategic importance for security” as it would “give a clear signal that globalization can be harnessed through the collective efforts of the international community”. A successful conclusion of this round is also extremely important for the developing nations who have invested a lot in the ‘Doha Development Rounds’.
- Pacific Small islands' demands sunk: Cautious over EPAs with EU

- After the bigger African countries and trading blocs, it is now the Pacific small islands’ that have expressed worries over signing a free trade deal with the EU by the end of this year. Governments from the island states have accused the European Union of failing to take into account their development needs when drawing up a free trade agreement that it expects them to sign by the end of this year.
