Statement by Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma
The thoughts of the Commonwealth family of governments and peoples are very much with those in Christchurch and surrounding areas who have been affected in so many ways by today's devastating earthquake and aftershocks. We think especially of those suffering injury and personal loss.
The Commonwealth stands in solidarity with Canterbury and the wider New Zealand community as they now meet the challenges of cleaning-up and rebuilding.
Stand proud Kiwis and all the best for a swift recovery. An Aussie, now living in the U.S.
I paid attention to this eartquake with a huge magnitude 7.2 richter scale and not so far from Christchurch community. It is as much as powerfull as the one in Haity or Chile, begining of this year). Hopefully, according to the eyewitness film I saw on CNN Churchrist cannot be compared to these cited disasters and sleep safely. Anyway, I pay a tribute for those injured ones and hope their will bounce back quickly.
